ABOUT FORWARD COLLISION ALERT

Forward Collision Alert is designed to warn you if it detects a potential front-end collision with a vehicle you’re following, so you can quickly take action. It can also provide a tailgating alert if you’re following a vehicle too closely.

HOW IT WORKS

If equipped, Forward Collision Alert uses a forward-looking camera or camera and radar sensors (depending on how your vehicle is equipped) to look directly ahead to monitor vehicles you’re following when your vehicle is in FORWARD gear.

When the feature detects a vehicle ahead, it will display a green icon. The icon will turn amber for a Tailgating Alert if you’re following a vehicle ahead too closely.

When you’re approaching a vehicle ahead too quickly and might be seconds away from a potential crash, the system will flash a red Collision Alert on the windshield, as well as sound eight high-pitched front beeps.

If you have the available Safety Alert Seat feature, you can choose to get either the high-pitched beeps or Safety Alert Seat pulses in your vehicle’s Settings menu.

You can use a control on your steering wheel to set the timing of Tailgating Alerts and Forward Collision Alerts to “Far,” “Medium” or “Near.” The timing is based on distance to the vehicle ahead, vehicle speeds and other factors. You can disable these alerts in the vehicle’s Settings menu.

Q&As

What can affect the ability of Forward Collision Alert to perform as expected?

The performance of the system may be affected by bad weather if it impacts visibility. Also, if the windshield behind the rearview mirror or the area in front of the radar sensors are obstructed in any way or not properly cleaned, the system might not perform as expected. See your Owner’s Manual for more information on cleaning the camera and radar sensors.

No safety system can take the place of an alert and engaged driver.

Will Forward Collision Alert stop my vehicle in emergency situations?

No. Forward Collision Alert only provides alerts, so you can quickly take action. Forward Collision Alert does not engage the vehicle’s throttle or braking. No safety system can take the place of an alert and engaged driver.
